STARGATE is an interactive Sound Workshop & Retreat aimed at serious, open-minded and experienced sound practitioners and musicians.

A soundscape is the unique collection of sounds that make up a specific environment, encompassing natural sounds (biophony, geophony), human-made sounds (anthropophony), and how humans perceive and interpret them, acting as an "audible landscape" that defines a place, tells stories, or creates atmosphere in music and film.

STARGATE is hosted and presented by Craig Shankster and Shankara Andy Bole who compose, perform and present a creative sound collaboration under the name SILENTIUM. With decades of experience in the fields of Live Performance, Singing Bowls, Gongs, Electronics, Guitar and other exotic instruments, Craig and Andy will systematically offer detailed and technical guidance throughout the weekend, leaving the participants hungry to develop their own unique SoundScaping style.

The objective of the weekends programme is to help the practitioner break free from the confines of the "tradititional" idea of what a SoundScape is. With detailed and nurturing guidance you will enhance your existing skillset and extend the compositional boundaries of SoundScaping using an array of stringed and percussive instruments all infused with a good dose of modern technology.The programme includes -

A closer look at a Gong and Singing Bowl based kit. A detailed look at microphoning and amplification. Using modern technology and effects to support and broaden the scope of the Sound Scape. Evening Sound Journeys. Practical instruction throughout the weekend .Group exercises. Discussions and problem solving.

Limited to just 12 people our STARGATE - An Interactive Sound Workshop & Retreat is held at the stunning converted Gothic Chapel, Ty Capel (www.SunsetbayRetreats.com), a harmonious blend of contemporary design and timeless charm. The conversion preserved the property’s rich heritage, showcasing stunning original features like the galley and captivating feature ceilings. Ty Capel is located in the seaside town of Tywyn on the Southern tip of the Snowdonia National Park, mid Wales.

Our STARGATE - An Interactive Sound Workshop & Retreat offers full-board accommodation with amazing vegan and gluten-free food freshly prepared and presented by Anastasia Eden of Kind Earth (www.kindearth.net); refreshments are also served throughout the weekend.

Accommodation is luxurious and ensuite in most cases. In addition to Ty Capel , we have also secured additional single/double accommodation at the venues designer beach house located on the seafront and only a seven minute walk away from the Chapel.

Ticket options include: Double, Twin and Single room (with supplement) occupancy, however availability of each room type is very limited so early booking is absolutely essential, a £300 deposit is required at the time of booking to reserve your place, The balance is due by 1st September 2026.

Ty Capel is located minutes from the train station and the mainline to/from Birmingham, Shrewsbury & Wolverhampton. The venue is also a short walk to the beach and a short bike ride to forests, lakes and gorgeous rolling hills.
